On 29 July 1982, Gyokuyu Co., Ltd. was established in the western part of Arita-cho.
The company was established to specialize in the development and proposal of tableware for home use only, and did not carry the mainstream products in Arita such as art and business-use tableware.
They concentrated on personal gifts other than volume gift orders and gained a good reputation.
They expanded their business along with the development of department stores and mass merchandisers.

In August 1987, due to business expansion, the company was relocated to its current location in Ono, Arita-cho. The showroom and warehouse were also renovated.
In 1995, they started to place more value on the product development for lifestyle shops.
In 2010, they entered other industries with the development of non-tableware products.
In response to the rapidly changing distribution system, Gyokuyu have discovered the potential of ceramics, not only in tableware, but also for other uses, and they began to promote products to other industries and export them overseas in earnest.

Although Arita ware was once highly regarded both within and outside of Japan for its advanced skills and sophisticated designs, recently, the production volume has been shrinking yearly due to a decline in domestic demand and a decline in exports due to economic development and the strong yen. However, the accumulated advanced skills and diversity of Arita ware are still with us, so we hope to create new possibilities and aspire to help the development of the local community.
